Acid brights, Spring trend tips for a Creatively Different makeover…

Planning your Spring-cleaning and a brand new home makeover? The hot Spring colour trend is playful, vibrant and über-funky. Think acid bright hues, Vitamin C shades or candy pink, and you’re right on track for creating a fashionable new space fresh for the Spring season. If you’re unsure of where or how to start creating this carnival of colours just follow our handy tips. Before you know it, you’ll have a professional-looking room inspired by top interior designers.

Tip 1: Put your ideas together on a mood board. If you’ve never created one before, this is a great start, and helps keep you on track. We’ve over 6,000 different images for printed blinds with many different themes, so having a mood board as a reference will help keep it focused.

Unsure of which colours are hot and which colours are not? Scarlet Opus Trends Blog raves about popped-out colours and punchy designs, exactly what we have in our Quirky Stuff collection. Play around with new shapes and designs that you normally wouldn’t consider – they can be surprisingly flattering, even in a small space. If you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, get creative. For sizzling shades, why not have your own design printed… or browse our daring prints, like Pink Geometrics?

Tip 2: Choose fabrics that work well with your chosen colour scheme; light linens and cottons say Spring, but so will lamb-soft velour and velvet for your other soft furnishings. Think about revamping existing furniture with some new colour accents like cushions and throws. You could even add Spring colours to an old desk. Go lime green with a hot pink cushion pad, or add funky accent colours to your older furniture… anything goes. For a splash of contemporary colour, we think this Montage of Coloured Images has the same iconic appeal as Andy Warhol pop art, and looks great in an apartment or city home. This one features our very own Houses of Parliament for Brit chic paired with sleek furniture or cool Perspex accents.

Draw your new room on a piece of paper – it doesn’t have to look like a professional plan, but it will help you thin about where to put colours and furniture to achieve the best look.

Tip 3: Prepare all surfaces properly. Redecorating is as much in the preparation as it is in the doing, and, while it may seem tedious, just think of the long-lasting results to spur you on. Wash down all wooden surfaces to be painted ensuring a clean base to start. And, if you’re updating wood like a window frame around one of our brightly-coloured blinds, then this is particularly important – new blinds show up old paint! A vibrant new look for your home needn’t cost the earth. Take time and relish the results. For children’s bedrooms our Yellow Telephone Boxes are bright and fun-filled. Try painting the window frame in a contrasting colour for a brave new look that kids will love.

Tip 4: Add texture by revitalising a room with new wallpaper made to match. Remove all old paper carefully, and ensure a flat surface by sanding away any unwanted lumps and bumps. If you need to fill holes from previous pictures or mirrors, give yourself plenty of drying time to sand and to reapply before you start painting.

Why not add a dramatic mural to a feature wall for a stunning focal point? Or rework your space by breaking up living areas with one of our fabulous Room Dividers for a totally different look?

We can create stunning blinds in all different sizes from the very small to the very tall (40cm to 5 metres) – and everything in between – to create a tailor-made look for your home. Use your plan and measure furniture first to ensure it will all fit.

And finally, Tip 5: We couldn’t finish without mentioning 2012′s hottest event of the year – the Olympics. If you don’t want to go the whole hog with a Floral Union Jack, then why not bring some of London’s loveliest images into your home as a nod to this once-in-a-lifetime event?

Tone down your new bright colours with some black-and-white images. We love romantic architectural photography like these London Apartments to add a really stylish touch to a small, neutral office space with bright accents.
