Measuring your Window

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR WINDOW FOR A ROLLER BLIND

Helpful Tip: Always use a steel tape measure to ensure that your measurements will be accurate.

  1. Take measurements in centimetres (cm) to the nearest millimetre (mm).
  2. Check how your window opens — if it opens inwards, it may not be possible to fit your blind into the window recess. In this case, choose ‘exact measurements’ below.
  3. Always specify the WIDTH first, then the HEIGHT(or DEPTH - also often called the DROP).
  4. Is your window PART-TILED at the bottom? If so, please take measurements within the recess at the top, in the middle, and at the bottom, and note these in the 'Further Instructions' section on the ordering page. When we send your proof, we will discuss more precisely your measuring requirements, taking into account the measurements you have given us.

Recess Measurements – To fit and hang INSIDE the window recess

1) First, check that your window recess is deep enough for a recess blind. The recess will need to be at least 7.5 cm (3 inches) to accommodate our standard roller mechanism. If the depth of your window recess is less than 7.5cm, please advise us.

2) Secondly, measure the WIDTH between the two walls at the point where the fittings will be attached. (This is important. If a recess is quite deep, the width across the recess can vary at different points.) It is advisable to measure at three different points to allow for any variation, and note the SMALLEST measurement, which is the measurement you will need to give us. (If you have a part-tiled recess, please see the note above.)

3) Finally, measure the HEIGHT or DEPTH between the wall above the window and the top of the window sill. Again, it is a good idea to measure in three different places, but, this time, please note the LARGEST measurement, which is the measurement you will need to give us.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR RECESS MEASUREMENTS:

All roller blinds use fixtures which extend slightly beyond the actual width of the blind. So, if your roller blind is to be fitted WITHIN THE WINDOW RECESS, the actual width of the fabric of your blind will be slightly narrower (approximately 3.5 cm) than the width measurement you give us, in order to allow for fitting and smooth operating of your roller blind within the window recess.

Please also note that you do not need to make any adjustments to the width or length of your blind measurements. We will make all the necessary adjustments for you.

Exact Measurements – To fit and hang OUTSIDE the window recess

1) Measure the WIDTH between the two walls at the point where the fittings will be attached, and ADD a minimum of 7.5 cm (3 inches) to allow for overlap each side of the window recess. If you wish to be sure to exclude all light from the sides of the blind, then you may wish to increase this measurement slightly.

2) Measure the HEIGHT or DEPTH between the wall above the window and the top of the window sill, and ADD a minimum of 7.5 cm (3 inches) to allow for overlap at the top and bottom of the window recess.

Is your Window situated in a Corner?

If your window is situated in a corner, flush or at rightangles to another wall, please contact us directly using our Special Requirements form, so that we can discuss your requirements more exactly.

In this situation, it will probably not be possible to choose an 'exact' fitting, since the roller mechanism will butt directly against the wall, leaving a gap between the wall and the blind, which may allow light to show through. A 'recess' fitting is more likely to be suitable, but we would prefer to discuss this with you directly, so that we can be sure to understand your requirements.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL ROLLER BLINDS:

1. All roller blinds will be cut, printed and made up according to the measurements you give us. If you have any queries, do please contact us using our Special Requirements form, or by telephone on 0800 085 2055.

3. The fitting brackets supplied with our roller blinds are of a standard design, and will enable you to fit the roller blind either to the window surround or to the top of the window recess. ‘How to Fit’ instructions are included.
