The Royal Armouries
The Royal Armouries is Britain's oldest museum. After the death of King Henry VIII in 1547, the arms and armour from the various royal palaces, including those that belonged to the king himself, were assembled at the Tower of London, and, together with what remained of the medieval arsenal and the collections assembled by the Board of Ordnance, became a museum. Today, the Armouries has one of the greatest collections of its type in the world, and has three museums, at the Tower, at Leeds, and at Fort Nelson, near Fareham, as well as an exhibition at the Frazier Historical Museum, in Louisville, Kentucky.
